The police failed to explain why she had become the victim of such a frenzied attack and concluded that she had disturbed burglars. Frustrated with the progress of their investigation, Helen's husband David Butler hired the services of private investigator Phillip Bryce.20.03.03 - Phillip Bryce discovered a link between five unsolved murders: all the victims had previously rented a video entitled THE LAST HORROR MOVIE. After a raid on a Manchester video store, police discovered that a copy of this film had been recorded over with 'snuff' footage that included the murder of Helen Butler. The film also revealed the identity of the killer as Max Parry a wedding photographer from Willesdon.
10.05.03 - Parry's car was found abandoned at Luton airport and he was later spotted in Nice. He is believed to be travelling under a pseudonym and french police suspect that he may have relocated to the US.
